Craniosacral therapy

Craniosacral therapy (CST) as defined by the Upledger Institute is a light-touch, whole-body treatment technique developed by John E. Upledger, DO, OMM working with the body’s craniosacral system to support and nourish the central nervous system, therefore improving overall health and well-being. It is a complementary method of hands-on bodywork utilizing the natural and unique rhythms of the different body systems to pinpoint and address problem sources. CST helps to alleviate the aches, pains and strains of life, and improves coping mechanisms to allow for better management of stress. CST improves the body’s ability to self-care which can produce profound, positive changes.
Coming from the school of osteopathy, CST is a holistic philosophy of treatment that balances the sympathetic nervous system for the body to self-correct. It uses a gentle hands-on approach (5 grams or less) to influence the craniosacral system, is a semi-closed hydraulic system contained by the dura mater (a tough fascial membrane which envelops the brain and spinal cord) and includes cerebral spinal fluid and the fascial system. Through trauma the systems can develop restrictions manifesting in a variety of symptoms. Releasing the restrictions can relieve symptoms such as:

  • Migraine Headaches
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Motor-Coordination Impairments
  • Colic
  • Autism
